Darius Acuff Jr. makes college basketball history with shoe deal

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know this year’s college basketball freshman class is loaded. AJ Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson, Cameron Boozer and even Caleb Wilson stole the show throughout the season. Over the last few weeks, though, nobody’s star has shined brighter than Darius Acuff Jr’s. As a result, he is making college sports history.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Acuff has received a signature shoe from Reebok. The deal makes Acuff the first NCAA men’s athlete to receive a signature shoe deal from a major U.S. brand while still in college.

Acuff, the 2025-26 SEC Player of the Year, has been exceptional all season. However, in the past month-plus, he has taken his game to another level. The Detroit native has averaged 28.5 points, 7.1 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game since the calendar turned to February (13 games).
