Arkansas basketball freshman guard Darius Acuff was named the SEC Freshman of the Week on Monday, which marks the 7th time he’s won the weekly award this season. He’s the first player in SEC history to win the award more than 6 times, and there still a few weeks remaining in the regular season to add to his record.
Acuff won the award 5 straight times earlier this year, which is also a record.
Acuff is perhaps the most underrated player in college basketball, all because he’s a freshman in one of the greatest freshman classes we’ve ever seen. Acuff is averaging 21 points and 6.2 assists per game this season, both of which sit in the top 20 in college basketball. He’s an efficient scorer, sitting at a 50% FG% despite being a 6-3 lead guard, and he’s a great defender to boot.
Acuff won this week’s award thanks to a pair of excellent outings against LSU and Auburn. The former 5-star prospect scored 28 with 5 assists against the purple and gold Tigers, then led the way for 31 points and 7 assists in a win over Auburn.
Arkansas is playing excellent basketball as we near the month of March. The Razorbacks have won 6 of their last 7 heading into a key matchup against Alabama in Tuscaloosa.
