ESPN Analytics predicts outcome of Florida-Kentucky collision at Rupp Arena

ESPN Analytics believes the SEC‘s old basketball rivalry that will be staged on Saturday afternoon at venerable Rupp Arena has a great chance to go to the road team.

That road team happens to be defending national champion and now 2025-26 SEC regular-season champ Florida, which is rampaging its way toward the SEC Tournament. The Gators have ripped off 10 straight wins, which has helped them surge in the AP rankings in recent weeks, all the way up to No. 5 in Monday’s poll.

But there is 1 more regular-season game to go for Todd Golden’s red-hot team, and it will be a big-time challenge as Florida heads to Lexington to try to make it 11 in a row. Standing in UF’s way will be a very desperate Kentucky team, which sits at 19-11 overall and 10-7 in the SEC and badly needs exactly the big victory that Saturday would provide. An upset of the Gators in front of their home fans would get the Wildcats to the 20-win plateau going into next week’s SEC Tournament.

But ESPN’s BPI doesn’t necessarily see that desperation shining through on Saturday, giving the road team a solid 62.8% chance to break Kentucky’s heart again and sweep the season series. Back on Valentine’s Day in Gainesville, the Gators outlasted the Wildcats, 92-83, so Saturday is about payback in addition to being a gigantic chance for Kentucky to boost its NCAA Tournament chances. The Wildcats failed to do that in their last game on Tuesday night, losing at Texas A&M.

Thomas Haugh is always a big part of what Florida does, and the junior forward was big in that first meeting, with 17 points and 8 rebounds. But the Gators’ iron man was forced to miss the first game of his career on Tuesday night against Mississippi State, sitting out the blowout victory over the Bulldogs because of a foot injury.

It wasn’t how Haugh planned to spend the final home game of the season, but Florida still won by 34 points without him, and Friday brought some good news from Golden on the Haugh injury front. Golden told reporters that Haugh is expected to play on Saturday at Kentucky, which would only strengthen the Gators’ attack.

“Doing great. Great practice (Friday),” Golden told reporters. “He’ll still be probable for (Saturday), but barring anything unforeseen, I would expect him to play (Saturday).”

Florida brings a 24-6 overall record into Saturday and a gaudy 15-2 SEC mark. The Gators clinched the SEC regular-season title in that blowout win earlier this week, but on Saturday they’ll be looking to help ruin their rival’s NCAA Tournament hopes, on Kentucky’s home floor and on national TV.

The Gators and Wildcats will tip things off at 4 p.m. ET on ESPN, with desperation dripping from the home side at Rupp Arena.
