ESPN Analytics predicts the result of Tennessee vs. Vanderbilt in SEC Tournament
The SEC Tournament quarterfinals got started with Kentucky and Florida, who just faced off to end the regular season. Our second SEC quarterfinal matchup also features two teams who battled one another last Saturday: Tennessee and Vanderbilt.
Rick Barnes’ Volunteers, the No. 5 seed, advanced to the quarterfinals by beating No. 12 Auburn 72-62 yesterday. In the process, they may have knocked the Tigers out of the NCAA Tournament. Mark Byington’s Commodores, the No. 4 seed, earned a double bye after beating Tennessee 86-82 in their regular-season finale. The two in-state rivals split their meetings, with the Vols prevailing 69-65 back on Feb. 21.
Vanderbilt and Tennessee have each scored 151 points against each other, making today’s contest a true winner-take-all in their rivalry. ESPN Analytics gives the Volunteers a 54.8% chance to beat the Commodores.
The road team has won both games between Tennessee and Vandy this year. If seeding and location — the tournament is in Nashville, Vanderbilt’s home city — were to continue this trend, they would suggest a Vols triumph. However, the Commodores don’t intend on letting their rivals improve their NCAA Tournament standing on their watch. Tip between Tennessee and Vanderbilt is set for appx. 3:30 p.m. ET (ESPN).
