Florida is a No. 1 seed in the latest NCAA Tournament bracketology projections from ESPN’s Joe Lunardi.

“UConn’s bad loss gives Florida the fourth No. 1 seed as the Gators knock off Kentucky at Rupp,” Lunardi writes in his Saturday evening update posted on X (formerly Twitter).

UF as a No. 1 seed was hard to imagine when the Gators fell to 5-4 overall after back-to-back losses to Duke and UConn in December. Since then, however, Todd Golden‘s team has turned it around in a big way.

The Gators stumbled out of the gate in SEC play with a loss to Mizzou, but recovered and finished league play 16-2 for the regular-season conference title and the top seed in next week’s SEC Tournament. Florida is 25-6 overall after Saturday’s win over Kentucky. UConn is 27-4 after a loss to unranked Marquette, but the SEC grind has given UF more Quad 1 win opportunities, and the Gators have taken advantage.

Florida heads to Nashville on an 11-game winning streak. The Gators won’t know their next opponent for a few days. As the No. 1 seed in the SEC Tournament, UF has a double-bye. Florida will play the Game 7 winner, which features the No. 7 seed against the winner of Game 3, which takes place Wednesday between the No. 10 seed and No. 15 seed.
