Florida linked to elite point guard transfer, but will face tough competition
Florida is fresh off of a National Championship victory, but Todd Golden and his staff are already hard at work at putting together the roster for next season.
According to college basketball insider Adam Zagoria, Florida is one of the top teams involved in the recruitment of former Princeton guard Xaivian Lee. North Carolina and St. John’s are also in the mix, per Zagoria’s reporting. Zagoria later reported that Duke and BYU are also recruiting Lee.
Lee is one of the top guards available in the transfer portal this cycle. He averaged roughly 17 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists per game during the 2024-25 season. He’s now looking to transfer to a big-time program for his final year of college eligibility.
Lee grades out as a 4-star transfer according to 247Sports. He’s the No. 22 overall player and the No. 5 point guard to enter the portal so far this offseason, per 247Sports.
Florida will be looking to replace several key members of its back court this offseason, most notably Walter Clayton Jr. Lee can provide some of the scoring that Clayton did for the Gators this year while also contributing as a playmaker and rebounder.
Florida has plenty of opportunity it can offer this offseason. The Gators have only signed 2 high school prospects in the 2025 class, so they’re expected to be very aggressive in the transfer portal over the coming weeks.
