Former Missouri basketball star and current Providence coach Kim English has reportedly been informed he will no longer be with the Friars after the 2025-26 season.

Multiple media outlets reported Thursday that English, 37, is out at Providence after three seasons. The Friars absorbed a 78-56 home loss Wednesday night to Marquette to fall to 14-16 overall and 7-12 in Big East play this season.

English’s career record at Providence stands at 42-50 overall and 20-36 in the Big East. The Friars went 21-14 in his first season replacing Ed Cooley in 2023-24 and earned an NIT berth. But a 12-20 mark last season and this season’s sub-.500 record has doomed English.

English began his coaching career at George Mason in 2021-22 and led the Patriots to a 20-13 overall mark in 2022-23 before being tapped by Providence.

Mason’s playing career at Missouri was a strong one, twice earning Third Team All-Big 12 honors as well as being named the 2012 Big 12 tournament Most Outstanding Player after averaging 23 points and shooting 78 percent from the field during the Tigers’ run to victory.

English was selected by the Detroit Pistons with the 44th overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft and played one season with the Pistons – appearing in 41 games and averaging 2.9 points per outing.
