Georgia women’s basketball didn’t need long to find a replacement for Katie Abrahamson-Henderson.

Just over 24 hours after parting ways with Abrahamson-Henderson after four seasons, the Bulldogs announced the hire of McNeese head coach Ayla Guzzardo to the same post in Athens. Guzzardo spent one season at McNeese, where she led a team that finished with 10 wins in 2024-25 to a Southland regular-season championship and a program-best 29 victories.

Georgia is a special program that helped lay the foundation for the success of our sport,” Guzzardo said in a statement. “From Coach (Andy) Landers to our great alumni and our passionate fan base, Lady Bulldog basketball has a storied history and is set up for continued excellence moving forward.”

Before her time at McNeese, Guzardo was the head coach at Southeastern Louisiana. In eight seasons at the helm of the Lions program, she was 233-122. She led the Lions to regular-season conference titles in 2023 and 2025, with the 2022-23 team claiming the first NCAA Tournament appearance in program history.

Georgia made the move to dismiss Abrahamson-Henderson after she accumulated a 69-59 record in four seasons. She led the Lady Bulldogs to the NCAA Tournament in 2023 and 2026 before parting ways with the university..
