The Georgia basketball team will be preparing for the 2026-27 season without one of their experienced players, as forward Dylan James has reportedly opted to hit the transfer portal.

On3 reported Friday that James’ agent, Jimmy Bell, informed the outlet of the move. The 6-foot-9 James will have one year of remaining college eligibility.

James started 18 of his 87 games played at Georgia in three seasons, with two starts in 2025-26. He averaged a career-best 4.5 points, 3.8 rebounds in Athens this most recent season, adding 23 steals, 20 blocks and 17 assists.

James saved the best game of his career for arch-rival Florida on Jan. 6 in Gainesville, coming off the bench to score a season-high 16 points to go with six rebounds in 20 minutes. Overall, James delivered 3.9 points, 2.9 rebounds and 14.3 minutes as a Bulldog.

James is the first Georgia player to hit the transfer portal after the Bulldogs finished 22-11 overall and 10-8 in the SEC. Georgia earned a No. 8 seed in the NCAA Tournament but fell to No. 9 seed Saint Louis 102-77 in a first-round Midwest Region game in Buffalo. The Billikens’ 25-point blowout was Georgia’s largest margin of defeat all season – a campaign that saw the Bulldogs record the most regular-season wins in program history.
