Kentucky guard Jaland Lowe’s 2025-26 season is over.
After struggling through the early part of the season with a bothersome shoulder injury, Lowe will have surgery to correct the problem. Coach Mark Pope announced that news on Monday evening, also confirming that the procedure will end Lowe’s campaign.
This is a huge blow for both Lowe and Kentucky. Lowe arrived in Lexington this past offseason after spending the previous 2 years with Pitt. He broke out as a high-level guard in 2024-25, averaging more than 16 points and 5 assists per game for the Panthers.
Kentucky was hoping he’d be a big part of its push to make a deep NCAA Tournament run in 2026. Instead, the Wildcats will have to forge a path forward without their starting point guard.
Otega Oweh and Denzel Aberdeen may have larger roles with distribution moving forward as a result of this injury. Freshman Jasper Johnson is also likely to see an increase in playing time and responsibility with Lowe no longer available.
Johnson is averaging 7 points and 2.5 assists per game so far this season. A 5-star prospect in the class of 2025, Johnson was the No. 21 overall player in that cycle according to 247Sports Composite rankings.
Kentucky will be in action again on Wednesday against LSU.
