Jim Jackson makes bizarre comparison between Arizona basketball and AI

Arizona basketball is headed back to the Final Four for the first time since 2001 after downing Purdue Saturday night. In a tale of two halves, Arizona dominated Purdue down the stretch to keep its hopes of winning a national title alive.
The Wildcats completely flipped the script. Tommy Lloyd made some adjustments in the locker room, and that was all she wrote. Arizona straight up punked Purdue in the final 20 minutes, outscoring the Boilermakers 48-26.
Which led to a bit of a strange comparison made by Jim Jackson, who was calling the game for TBS. Because of Arizona’s ability to make adjustments, Jackson decided to compare the Wildcats to AI. “They gather data, it modifies their gameplan, and then they become deadly,” Jackson said.

At the end of the day, this appeared to be a spur of the moment comparison to keep things rolling on the broadcast. But if you don’t mind a brief editorial, I’d argue Arizona basketball (and all college basketball teams, for that matter) are the fundamental opposite of AI.
There are no shortcuts to greatness in basketball or any team sport, especially in the Elite Eight. Human intelligence, Tommy Lloyd and the Arizona basketball team, drew up with those halftime adjustments that ultimately advanced the Wildcats to the Final Four — not a language model simply regurgitating information it scours from the internet on a massive scale.
The Wildcats are going to be a tough out, even with the excellent teams still standing in mind. Can Arizona win its first title since 1997?
