John Calipari in position to make SEC history if Arkansas beats Vanderbilt
John Calipari is no stranger to winning the SEC Tournament. The 67-year-old captured the championship at the event six times when he was manning the bench for the Kentucky Wildcats. If he were to win it on Sunday with Arkansas, though, he’d become one-of-one in SEC basketball history.
According to ESPN Insights, Calipari would become the first head coach to lead multiple SEC schools to the conference tournament championship if his Razorbacks can topple the Vanderbilt Commodores on Sunday. Arkansas would also end a quarter-century long drought without an SEC Tournament title with a victory.
The Commodores’ own SEC Tournament championship dry spell is nearly half as long as that of the Razorbacks. The last time Vandy won the conference tournament was 2012, when they defeated Calipari’s eventual national champion-winning Wildcats.
That triumph came under head coach Kevin Stallings, who also led the ‘Dores to their most recent NCAA Tournament win the same season.
On Kalshi, here are the odds for Sunday’s SEC Tournament final:
Neither Vanderbilt nor Arkansas are truly accustomed to winning the SEC Tournament. The Commodores enter today’s matchup looking for their third-ever conference tournament crown (1951, 2012). Shockingly, the Razorbacks have only ever won the event once (2000).
Vanderbilt and Arkansas tip off at 1:00 p.m. E.T. (ESPN).
