Otega Oweh and Brandon Garrison helped Kentucky basketball outrace LSU on Wednesday, ending the Tigers’ season and advancing the Wildcats to the second round. Kentucky will face off against Missouri tomorrow afternoon.
Let’s start with Oweh’s outing. The star Wildcats guard had a few huge buckets, including a dagger late in the game off a midrange jumper, seen below. He finished 8-19 from the field and snagged 8 rebounds, which led all Kentucky players.
But while Oweh was the leading scorer, Garrison’s hot second half might have ultimately won the Wildcats the game. The big man was an efficient 7-9 from the field across his 26 minutes of action and offered some much-needed energy as buckets started to slow.
LSU didn’t lead often in this one, but the Tigers were able to keep within striking distance pretty much throughout. Garrison led a big run to give the Cats some breathing room later in the second half, nailing back-to-back threes.
Denzel Aberdeen had a nice outing, too. He scored 16 points, the only other Wildcat to hit double figures, and snagged 2 rebounds with 3 assists. Kentucky will be back in action tomorrow against the Tigers, with the game set to tip off at 12:30 p.m. ET.
