Labaron Philon’s status revealed for Alabama-Mississippi State game
Alabama is looking to close the regular season strong as Nate Oats & Co. aim to build momentum heading into postseason action, but they will have to survive for at least one night with the services of their star player.
Sophomore guard Labaron Philon had appeared on the team’s injury report Tuesday night as ‘questionable,’ making his availability for Wednesday’s 9 p.m. ET tip-off suspect.
And as AL.com’s Nick Kelly reported, Philon will likely miss the Crimson Tide’s clash with the Bulldogs. Kelly added that Philon “could maybe play if absolutely need be, but chance to rest him while he deals with a short-term injury.”
Alabama will have to find a way to make up for the loss of Philon’s 21.3 points, 5.0 assists and 3.3 rebounds per game.
Prior to leaving the Tide’s Saturday date with LSU early due to injury, Philon had reached double-figure points in every game this season, highlighted by a 35-point outing in a double-overtime win over Arkansas last week.
The Mobile native appears primed to return when Alabama visits Tennessee on Saturday, but Oats will have to hope that his team can first withstand the ever-efficient shooting of Josh Hubbard and the presence of the hostile Bulldog faithful.
