Published:
Mike Krzyzewski left Duke’s game against Wake Forest at halftime, and did not return to the bench for the second half, as assistant coach Jon Scheyer took over the head coaching duties.
Brendan Marks of The Athletic reported that Coach K did not emerge from the locker room after trainers attended to him several times earlier in the evening. The team then put out a statement that said he was not feeling well. Details were not immediately available, but there was at least a “thumbs up” given about his status.
Scheyer is an associate coach and designated as Krzyzewski’s successor after this season when the legendary coach steps down.
Duke led 42-33 at halftime.
Krzyzewski did not coach in the teams’ first meeting about a month ago because of what was called an undisclosed illness “non-COVID-related virus.”
Developing situation here at #Duke:
Coach K has not emerged from the halftime locker room, and Jon Scheyer is currently speaking to the team from the seat K normally does. K has been attended to by Duke trainers several times already tonight.

Steve Forbes just asked the Duke bench from afar if Coach K was OK. Carrawell gave him a thumbs up.
