Mizzou women’s basketball to hire ex-SEC coach for head coaching role, per report
Mizzou is closing in on a new hire for its women’s basketball head coaching position, per a report.
According to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch’s Eli Hoff, the Tigers are set to hire Kellie Harper for the role. Harper most notably served as the head coach at Tennessee from 2019-24. She was fired from that position after last season following a 20-13 campaign.
Although Harper was dismissed, she did have some success in Nashville. Harper led the Vols to the NCAA Tournament in all 4 seasons where a tournament was held (excluding 2020 due to the pandemic). Tennessee twice advanced to the Sweet 16 under Harper’s leadership as well.

Harper also has some experience in the state of Missouri. Before taking over at Tennessee, Harper was the head coach at Missouri State. Her time with the Lady Bears included a Sweet 16 run back in 2019. Harper’s previous head coaching experience also includes stints at NC State and Western Carolina.
Harper played at Tennessee from 1995-99 under the legendary Pat Summit. She then began her coaching career as an assistant at Auburn in 2000.
She’s set to take over a Missouri program that has not made the NCAA Tournament since 2019 or the Sweet 16 since 2001.
