Ole Miss guard Eduardo Klafke is set to enter the transfer portal once the spring window opens on April 7, according to Jonathan Givony of DraftExpress. This is the first instance of transfer portal movement for Ole Miss this offseason.
While Klafke’s season averages won’t admit it, this is a pretty tough loss for the Rebels. The Franca, Brazil native has been with the Rebels for 2 seasons with 70 total games of action. He’s a dependable player off the bench who shot 43% from 3 (on limited attempts, mind you) and brought constant energy to the court for the Rebels.
In other words, Klafke was Ole Miss’s hustle guy.
As mentioned above, Klafke was not a consistent scoring threat for the Rebels — he averaged just 4.6 points per game despite playing around 20-25 minutes per contest in SEC play. However, he did flash some ability at the start of February, posting 3 straight games with 10+ points scored while shooting a combined 15-21 from the field.
What stings most about this loss for the Rebels is the potential steps he could have taken and surely will take at his next stop. Turn those offensive flashes into more consistent scoring and Klafke could be a 30-game starter.
Chris Beard, like many college basketball coaches, is going to have a lot to address this offseason.
