Things did not go well for Louisville at the NCAA Tournament on Thursday.
The Cardinals fell to Creighton in Lexington, 89-75, behind a ridiculous shooting display from the Bluejays. Creighton was an incredible 57% from the field and 45% from range after missing their first 5 shots from 3.
Near the end of the game, just as Louisville was flirting with making things competitive again, Pat Kelsey drew a technical foul, upset with officials for not calling an apparent foul during a shot. Kelsey then laid into the official who called the tech.
Perhaps equally unhappy with the call, a fan from the stands threw an open water bottle onto the court, prompting a lengthy clean-up for player safety.
Here’s a look at the hectic scene:
And just like that (to the delight of Kentucky fans everywhere), Louisville’s season comes to a close. The Cardinals were the popular pick to advance to the Round of 32, where Creighton will now take on the winner of Auburn or Alabama State. Of course, the Tigers will be heavily favored in that matchup.
The Cardinals finish Pat Kelsey’s first season in Louisville at 27-8 on the year. Creighton, now 25-10, will play next on Saturday.
