Patric Young is ready to move forward and inspire others.

The former basketball standout for the Florida Gators was released from the spinal cord rehabilitation center at Craig Hospital in Denver, Colorado less than a week ago and he talked about his experience with ESPN personality Paul Finebaum.

“Normally a person stays there for about 2-3 months, I was there for a month and a half because I just have the ambition, the drive and determination that I am in control of defining this story. That what has happen is not going to define who I am and the man I’m going to be.”

Young, a commentator for the SEC Network, was injured in a one-vehicle crash in over the summer. The accident left him without the use of his legs, but Young want to continue to look ahead and enjoy his life.

“Nothing that happened is going to affect me being a good husband, a good dad…great at my job and whatever comes in the future. I’m going to use this platform to inspire.”

Young talked with Finebaum about how the accident has brought his family closer and made him lean on his faith. He admits to having bad days, but doesn’t want anyone to feel sorry for him.

“I have an amazing support group. All these things I still dreamt of…there’s not going to happen the exact way, but they’re still going to be fruitful…I have life and I have great people around me that are going to push me and not let me have a pity party.”

Young expects to be back with the SEC Network and commentating on basketball when the season rolls around in a few months. And we’re going to be looking forward to that.
