Penny Hardaway’s Memphis program is facing allegations of multiple Level I and Level II NCAA infractions. A copy of the NCAA’s Notice of Allegations, with redactions, was provided to outlets including the Daily Memphian and the Memphis Commerical Appeal.
Per the Daily Memphian’s Steven Johnson, Memphis basketball coach Penny Hardaway is tied to at least 1 Level I infraction and 2 Level II violations. The NOA reportedly includes violations on NCAA clauses relating to institutional control, head coach responsibility and failure to monitor.
Allegation No. 1, a Level I violation, reportedly states that Memphis failed to cooperate with the NCAA investigation, failing to report acts of noncompliance in a timely manner. Allegations 2-5 were reportedly heavily redacted. Allegation No. 7 is that 1-5 showed a lack of institutional control. Hardaway is “presumed responsible” for 3 Allegations, per Johnson.
Early reactions to the report are focusing on a note about a hard drive turned to the Complex Case Unit. Data from a former assistant coach’s hard drive was not preserved when the drive was turned over. The former assistant coach is presumed to be Mike Miller.

Deleting the data from a hard drive during an ongoing investigation definitely screams “nothing to see here.” https://t.co/fxkdTgxuBc
