Rhyne Howard, the No. 1 WNBA draft selection in 2022 and a former Kentucky Wildcats star, announced Monday that she will be joining Florida women’s basketball team as an assistant coach this season.

Howard will work with the Gators during her offseason, which starts for the WNBA around late September or early October. The Gators’ 2023 season starts in early November.

Gators HC Kelly Rae Finley commented on Howard’s hiring Monday in a release from the Gators:

“It has always been important to me that we surround our student-athletes with people who can help equip them with the skills necessary to succeed as professionals on and off the court… Rhyne is humble, competitive, thoughtful, and driven… She is living many of our student-athlete’s dreams. Her knowledge of the game combined with her ability to teach and connect with them on and off the court will elevate our program.”

Howard currently plays for the Atlanta Dream. Her mother played at Florida from 1987-1991.

At Kentucky Howard was a 2-time SEC Player of the Year, remains one of the best 3-point shooters in Wildcats history and is their first No. 1 overall pick in a WNBA draft in school history.
