Rueben Chinyelu will enter the NBA Draft. The star Florida Gators center announced the news Monday evening, also insisting that he will maintain his college eligibility and return to Florida if he decides to withdraw from the draft.
Here’s a look at Chinyelu’s announcement, which he posted on his personal X account.
This has been expected news for Gator fans and keeps open the possibility of another year for Florida’s top-level frontcourt. Alex Condon recently announced that he would return for the Gators in 2026-27 and junior Thomas Haugh has yet to make an official decision on his return or entry into the draft alongside Chinyelu.
At 6-10, Chinyelu is an absolute weapon of a defender and a double-double machine. The National Defensive Player of the Year averaged 10.9 points and 11.2 rebounds per game last season, also averaging 1 block per game and 1 steal per game. Chinyelu is one of those defenders who affects the game just by being on the floor; opposing players often (smartly) refuse to attack the rim while he’s in the paint.
Chinyelu, who owns the Gators single season record for offensive rebounds, is an elite rebounder and averaged more rebounds per game than any other power conference player apart from Washington’s Hannes Steinbach, who also recently declared for the NBA Draft.
