Saint Peter’s has done it again. The Peacocks will keep dancing as the first No. 15-seed to ever reach the Elite 8.
The Cinderella story continues with Saint Peter’s latest victim being No. 3-seed Purdue. Thursday’s Sweet 16 game in Philadelphia was a back-and-forth battle from the opening tip to the final buzzer.
Saint Peter’s made its 6 free throws in the final 41 seconds to secure the 3-point win as the Boilermakers tried to battle back. Purdue standout Jaden Ivey even made a 3-point jumper with 8 seconds left to cut it to 65-64. The Peacocks successfully evaded Purdue’s defense and took 4 seconds off the clock before a foul. Saint Peter’s standout Doug Edert made 2 free throws to get it back up to a 3-point lead, 67-64. Ivey missed a 3-point attempt at the buzzer.
Saint Peter’s will face the winner of North Carolina-UCLA on Sunday.
