Scotty Pippen Jr. and Shareef O’Neal worked together on a transition basket in Sunday night’s Summer League game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Charlotte Hornets.
Pippen and O’Neal play on the Lakers’ Summer League roster and they are trying to make the regular season roster for the Lakers. Pippen, the former Vanderbilt Commodore, and O’Neal, who played at LSU, both went undrafted in the 2022 NBA Draft.

They caught the eye of the basketball world on Sunday night as they teamed up to score in the first quarter. With 4:46 left in the first quarter, Pippen deflected a pass from Hornets guard Jalen Crutcher. Lakers guard Max Christie came up with the ball and tossed it down the court to O’Neal, who finished the forced turnover with a two-handed dunk.
Despite the impressive play, the Lakers fell to the Hornets in overtime. With more standout defensive and offensive plays, Pippen and O’Neal will hope to land spots on the Lakers’ regular season team.
At Vanderbilt, Pippen averaged 20.4 points per game during the 2021-2022 season. Pippen, the son of Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer Scottie Pippen, is looking to follow in his father’s footsteps as an NBA player.
In a similar fashion, O’Neal is looking to make his mark in the NBA, which is what his father, Shaquille O’Neal, did for 20 seasons as a Basketball Hall of Famer.
