Florida’s Colin Castleton and Tennessee’s Kennedy Chandler got off to great starts this men’s basketball season, and the SEC recognized them for their efforts on Monday.
Castleton was named the Player of the Week after the 6-foot-11, 240-pound senior averaged 16.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 6 blocks with just 2 total turnovers in wins over Elon and No. 20 Florida State. His 15-point, 16-rebound, six-block day vs. Florida State marked UF’s fifth double-double with 5 blocked shots since 1996. His 16 rebounds against FSU were a personal best, and he matched his career high with 4 assists in the season-opening win against Elon.
Chandler was named the Freshman of the Week after he averaged 18 points, 5 assists and 3 rebounds per game in wins over UT Martin and ETSU. He shot 68.4 percent (13-of-19) from the field and made 85.7 percent (6-of-7) of his 3-pointers in the 2 games.
