South Carolina women’s basketball has won the SEC regular-season championship once again.
The third-ranked Gamecocks breezed past No. 17 Ole Miss, 85-48, improving to 26-2 overall and 13-1 in conference play while clinching the program’s fifth straight regular-season league crown. It’s also their 10th since Dawn Staley took the reins of the program in 2008.
After taking a 20-16 lead in the first quarter, the Gamecocks outscored the Rebels 46-18 on either side of the halftime break to take a 66-34 lead into the fourth. Joyce Edwards, the SEC’s fourth-leading scorer, finished with a game-high 21 points, going 7-of-15 from the floor and making all seven of her free throw attempts. Madina Okot had a double-double, ending the day with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Ta’Niya Latson added 13 for the Gamecocks, who are on an eight-game winning streak.
Meanwhile, it was a day to forget for Ole Miss star Cotie McMahon. The third-leading scorer in the conference went 0-9 from the field and posted just two points.
Sunday’s win wrapped up the Gamecocks’ regular-season home slate as, once again, they showed why Colonial Life Arena is arguably the toughest home-court environment in women’s basketball. South Carolina‘s 15-0 mark this season improves it to an eye-popping 108-2 at the arena since the 2019-20 season.
South Carolina currently has a 10% chance to win the national title according to Kalshi. Seems like a deal to us! Check out Kalshi’s odds for the NCAAW Champion below:
