The Auburn Tigers played one of their worst games of the season last night as they lost to Oklahoma 91-79, and head coach Steven Pearl apologized to the fans for the team’s performance.
The Tigers trailed for all but a couple of minutes in the game versus the Sooners. They allowed a 4-11 SEC team to shoot 68% from behind the arc and 53% from the floor, astonishing numbers from a team that shoots on average 36.7% from 3-point land and 46.5% from the floor.
“I want to apologize to our fans for that poor performance tonight,” Pearl started. He continued… “We were entitled tonight, we were selfish tonight on the defensive end. We had no urgency, and that’s unacceptable.”
Even the offense struggled for the Tigers against Oklahoma. Only 2 players scored in double figures: Keyshawn Hall and Kevin Overton, who both scored 26 each. The other 3 starters for the Tigers shot a combined 5-of-19 from the floor. Both players who came off the bench for the Tigers, Filip Jovic and Elyjah Freeman, scored more than the starters, and all Auburn scorers not named Hall or Overton combined to score just 27 points.
Auburn is now 6-9 in the SEC and 15-13 overall. With only 3 games left in the regular season, the Tigers need every win they can get down the stretch. As it currently stands, the Tigers have a 39% chance to go to the Big Dance according to Kalshi.
