It looks like “Bucky Ball” is staying put in College Station – with a healthy raise and extension.
Texas A&M coach Bucky McMillan has reportedly reached an agreement in principle with the Aggies for an extension and salary ‘market adjustment.’ TexasAgs.com first reported the news – which includes an extension through 2031.
In his first season in College Station, McMillan’s Aggies went 22-12 overall and 11-7 in the SEC in 2025-26. Texas A&M earning a No. 10 seed in the NCAA Tournament and a 63-50 upset victory over No. 7 seed Saint Mary’s in the first round before falling 88-57 to No. 2 seed Houston in the Round of 32.
“I think it’s great when you can be a tournament team, you can compete in our league, which has been analytically the toughest league in the country the past two years,” McMillan said after the Houston loss. “I think we have an identity of who we are and how we’re going to play.
“We’ve showed we can play with a lot of teams…but I do think that this was a major step getting to the tournament this year, where we finished in the SEC, and I think that it should just continue to grow from here.”
Before Texas A&M, McMillan coached four seasons at Samford – going 99-52 overall and 54-29 in the Southern Conference with one regular-season conference title and also a trip to the 2024 NCAA Tournament.
Along the way, McMillan’s style of basketball has been branded “Bucky Ball” – as the Aggies employ an up-tempo style with quick 3-pointers and smothering defense. McMillan signed a 5-year, $16 million contract with Texas A&M in April 2025 which includes a $3 million base salary in the first year and a $100,000 increase in each subsequent season.
