Texas WBB coach blasts SEC for scheduling of LSU, South Carolina games

You can probably chalk up Texas women’s basketball coach Vic Shaefer for a stern note of admonishment and perhaps a fine after his Sunday postgame press conference at LSU.
Shaefer took aim at SEC schedulers for pitting the Longhorns in enduring back-to-back road games against conference powers South Carolina and LSU. The second-ranked Longhorns dropped their first game of the season Sunday, losing to No. 12 LSU 70-65 in Baton Rouge, and head to Columbia to play No. 3 South Carolina on Thursday.
“They obviously have a vendetta against Texas,” Shaefer said. “There are 16 games this year, and I have to play South Carolina and LSU on the road this year – and get them back-to-back in the same week. Make that make sense.
“The league is tough enough as it is, but then to bless me and my group with that – it really has a stench to it. I’m really disappointed in the league, for putting our kids in that position.”
Shaefer’s Longhorns leapt out to an 18-game winning streak to start the season before Sunday’s loss to LSU. Texas trailed for much of the game and committed 17 turnovers while forcing just five by LSU. Madison Booker led the Longhorns with 24 points, 14 after committed her fourth foul just 11 seconds into the fourth quarter. Kyla Oldacre had 16 points, 16 rebounds and three blocks.
