The Texas Longhorns were sweating out Selection Sunday, wondering if they were going to get a chance to play in this year’s NCAA Tournament.
They did, but with a catch — they had to go to Dayton to play in the First Four. Their opponent? Will Wade’s NC State squad.
After squandering a sizable lead late in the second half while looking like they’d never faced full-court pressure, Sean Miller’s Longhorns faced a 66-66 score with only seconds remaining.
The ball found its way to veteran guard Tramon Mark, who knew exactly what to do. Mark calmly and coolly drained this mid-range jumper from just inside the 3-point arc:
Mark finished with 17 points to lead the Longhorns on the night. NC State’s Darrion Williams was the high scorer for the game, pouring in 21 points.
Texas star Dailyn Swain had a somewhat-quiet night by his lofty standards, finishing with 13 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. He did have 1 block, though, and oh boy did he ever choose a great time to do it:
Texas will now enter the Round of 64 as an 11-seed. Waiting for Sean Miller and company will be the No. 6-seed BYU Cougars. AJ Dybantsa leads the way for BYU and might just end up being the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft.
Get your popcorn ready, y’all. This NCAA Tournament is already shaping up to be epic.
