Former Iowa State star Tyrese Haliburton had something to say after the Cyclones knocked off Kentucky 82-63 in the Round of 32 on Sunday.
Haliburton never reached the NCAA Tournament while in college. Yet that didn’t stop the two-time All-Star from taking to social media to roast Kentucky’s NBA alumni after his Cyclones advanced to the Sweet 16.
“Went to text the guys who played at Kentucky about this game and forgot they think they Arkansas alum now,” Haliburton said.
This comes after Oklahoma City Thunder players Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Cason Wallace, who each went to Kentucky, both picked Arkansas to win the national title in a social media video. Gilgeous-Alexander also added Kentucky as a national championship option along with Arkansas.
The connection to Arkansas for both is former Kentucky head coach John Calipari. The Basketball Hall of Fame coach took over at Arkansas in 2024.
Kentucky has reached the NCAA Tournament in each of Mark Pope’s first two seasons at the helm of replacing the legend. However the standard for Big Blue Nation is often championship or bust, so a first-weekend exit is likely to sting.
