Walter Clayton Jr. was everywhere in the first half of the Final Four, delivering some big buckets and key stretches for Todd Golden and Florida.
At the start of the game, Clayton opened the scoring for the Gators with a clean 3-point attempt. He would go on to deliver a game-high 14 points at the break, and he broke Florida’s record for points in a single NCAA Tournament, previously held by Joakim Noah, in the process.
Even with Clayton’s impressive scoring, it leaves the Gators in a 46-38 deficit to Auburn at the break. While Clayton has 14 points and Alijah Martin has chipped in 10, the Tigers have been tough to handle on the offensive end of the floor.
A trio of Auburn starters have 8+ points, headlined by star big man Johni Broome with 12 points and 4 rebounds. Remarkably, the Tigers are shooting just 26.7% from 3-point range and have produced just 6 assists, but Auburn is dominating inside the arc while shooting 51.5% from the field.
With just 3 team assists in the first half, Florida needs to find another spark to go with Clayton, but he’s been electric yet again on the biggest stage possible. Here’s how social media reacted to that performance:
