Will Wade met with NC State officials on Wednesday evening to discuss his future with the program amid rumors that the head coach will be hired by LSU, according to Matt Moscona.
Moscona reports the two sides did not agree on terms for Wade to remain as the NC State head coach, making a return to LSU “feel imminent.” According to Moscona, there are a couple dominos that would need to fall before Wade would return to LSU.
LSU would need to bring in Heath Shroyer, which college basketball insider Jon Rothstein reported is happening on Thursday morning. Shroyer previously worked at McNeese, where he hired Wade as the basketball coach. LSU would also have to formally announce the firing of Matt McMahon before announcing Wade’s return.
Moscona also mentioned that LSU would be willing to negotiate a settlement of Wade’s buyout with NC State. Wade’s buyout drops from $5 million to $3 million after April 1, but LSU would like to avoid this lingering on another week.
LSU has not made the NCAA Tournament since 2022 — Wade’s final season of his first stint in Baton Rouge.
