While it may never be as popular as the more common NFL version, there are a growing number of people competing in leagues of fantasy college football teams. For those who wish to be stat-watching on Saturdays, Athlon Sports has ranked the Top 100 college players available for fantasy college teams.

Eleven SEC players made the list:

  • No. 6 LSU RB Leonard Fournette
  • No. 19 Ole Miss QB Chad Kelly
  • No. 32 Tennessee RB Jalen Hurd
  • No. 55 Texas A&M WR Christian Kirk
  • No. 59 Tennessee QB Joshua Dobbs
  • No. 65 Alabama WR Calvin Ridley
  • No. 66 Mississippi State WR Fred Ross
  • No. 73 Texas A&M QB Trevor Knight
  • No. 78 Auburn RB Jovon Robinson
  • No. 96 Mississippi State QB Nick Fitzgerald
  • No. 99 Vanderbilt Ralph Webb

The publication says its rankings are based off of a relatively traditional fantasy scoring model:

Passing Yards, 25 yards = 1 point
Passing TD = 4 points
Rushing Yards 10 yards = 1 point
Rushing TDs = 6 points
Receptions = 0.5 points per reception
Receiving Yards 10 yards = 1 point
Receiving TDs = 6 points

Unfortunately, Athlon Sports does not offer further explanation for the methodology behind the list in the article presenting the rankings. One can only assume that Georgia RB Nick Chubb, a potential Heisman candidate, was left off due to injury. It would seem, however, that if the list can assume Fitzgerald will perform well in Mississippi State’s offense as QB1, it could also make the assumption that Alabama RB Bo Scarbrough will do well as the Crimson Tide’s top ball-carrier.
