11 SEC players named to Sports Illustrated preseason All-American teams

Writers and editors at Sports Illustrated have assembled their preseason All-American teams, which were released on Wednesday, and it was a solid showing for the SEC.

11 SEC players were named preseason All-Americans by SI, eight of which were on the first team. Alabama (OT Jonah Williams and C Ross Pierschbaker), LSU (LB Devin White and CB Greedy Williams) and Georgia (CB Deandre Baker and K Rodrigo Blankenship) each had two players named to the first team.

Ole Miss wide receiver A.J. Brown and South Carolina all-purpose player Deebo Samuel rounded out the eight SEC players featured on the first team.

The Crimson Tide, who won the national championship last season, had the most players on the teams among SEC schools, as linebacker Mack Wilson, who made the second team, was the third Alabama player to be named a preseason All-American by SI.

Here are SI’s full preseason All-American teams (SEC players in bold):

Defense

Specialists
K: Rodrigo Blankenship, Georgia

All-purpose: Deebo Samuel, South Carolina

SECOND TEAM

Offense
TE: Albert Okwuegbunam, Missouri

Defense
DL: Jeffery Simmons, Mississippi State

LB: Mack Wilson, Alabama
