The fall has been swift, but it could get worse.

LSU (7-2) ranked at No. 2 in this year’s initial College Football Playoff poll. But after back-to-back losses to Alabama and Arkansas, the Tigers have fallen six spots to No. 15.

Gone is the opportunity to rank as one of the nation’s four best teams at the end of the year. Most likely gone is Leonard Fournette’s chance to win the Heisman Trophy.

Possibly gone after this weekend? A spot in the top 25 in all three major polls. LSU currently is a 4-point underdog in Las Vegas. Lose to Ole Miss in Oxford and the team falls to 1-5 in November games the last two seasons.

Coach Les Miles’ team still remains the third-highest ranked SEC team in the College Football Playoff poll. A two-loss regular season remains possible. As the last two weeks have proven, the outlook can change quickly.

At this point, though, LSU’s ranking is nothing more than a quantitative piece to plug into the narrative of this 2015 season.
