3 SEC quarterbacks named to Davey O’Brien Award’s Great 8 for Week 3

It was a terrific Week 3 for SEC quarterbacks, especially so for 3 standouts. The Davey O’Brien Award Great 8 for last weekend featured Alabama‘s Ty Simpson, Texas A&M‘s Marcel Reed, and Georgia‘s Gunner Stockton.

Simpson completed 24 of his 29 passes for 382 yards, 4 touchdowns, and no interceptions with a 89.8 QBR in Alabama’s 38-14 victory vs. visiting Wisconsin. On the season, Simpson has passed for 862 yards with 9 touchdowns and no interceptions.

Reed helped Texas A&M edge host Notre Dame 41-40 by going 17-for-37 for 360 yards with 2 touchdowns and an interception while also rushing for 37 yards on 5 carries. Reed has thrown for 869 yards with 9 touchdowns and 1 interception, as well as rushing for 142 yards and a score this season.

Stockton completed 23 of his 31 passes for 304 yards, 2 touchdowns and no interceptions for a 93.4 QBR in Georgia’s 44-41 win at Tennessee. Stockton has passed for 721 yards with 4 touchdowns and no interceptions this season.

Simpson and Stockton are both on a bye as they get set to clash when Alabama heads to Georgia on Sept. 27 (7:30 p.m. ET/ABC). Reed and Texas A&M are also on a bye and will face visiting Auburn on Sept. 27 (3:30 p.m./ESPN).
