Alabama football started off the 2023 season with a 56-7 win over MTSU. Tommy Rees allowed Jalen Milroe to make plenty of plays. Milroe scored multiple times with and not only his arm.

Milroe was named the starting quarterback before the game and fans were able to see why Nick Saban made that decision. After losing Bryce Young to the NFL Draft, it looks like the QB position is in a good place for now.

Here are some takeaways after the Week 1 action in Tuscaloosa:

Alabama needs to let Jalen Milroe have freedom in Tommy Rees’ offense:

Fans were able to see how dangerous Jalen Milroe can be. Milroe was able to score 1 passing touchdown and 2 rushing touchdowns in the first half alone. The MTSU defense could not find a way to bring him down.

Rees’ fiancee might be onto something after posting a picture of herself wearing a “Run The Damn Ball” hat. If Milroe can keep this up throughout the season, that might be the gameplan for success.

Isaiah Bond is a deep threat at wideout:

Isaiah Bond connected with Milroe for a big touchdown through the air. He led all Crimson Tide wideouts in receiving yards heading into halftime. Milroe may have found a favorite target to throw to.

The deep score for Bond went for 47 yards. Bond could be emerging as a reliable option in the receiver group as well.

Jaylen Key looking good at FS for Alabama:

There was another position battle taking place at Alabama during the offseason. Besides at QB, there was also one at safety. Saban decided to start Key.

Key proved that Saban made the right decision by forcing an MTSU interception. Key brought his veteran experience over with him from UAB.

Nick Saban looks to be handling the transition period at multiple positions.
