This year’s World Series was historic. The Houston Astros and Washington Nationals went seven games, and the home team never won a single game. That was the first time in any professional sport that a home team didn’t win a game in a seven-game series.
The Nationals emerged victorious, and that means a few former SEC stars will get World Series rings.
Here’s a look at the 4 former SEC standouts who were on the Nationals’ 40-man roster this season:
- Aaron Barrett, RP, Ole Miss
- Yan Gomes, C, Tennessee
- Max Scherzer, SP, Missouri
- Andrew Stevenson, OF, LSU
Scherzer and Gomes were the starting pitcher and catcher, respectively, in the decisive Game 7. (Note: Scherzer played at Mizzou when the Tigers were in the Big 12.)
Congratulations to all of these now-Washington players on an incredible postseason run that brought the franchise its first-ever title.
