New Florida coach Jon Sumrall was able to solidify one of the Gators’ high-profile recruits during Wednesday’s Early Signing Period, receiving the paperwork from 4-star quarterback Will Griffin (Tampa, Fla./Jesuit).

Griffin ranks as the 14th-best quarterback in the country according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings and is the 29th-best player from the state of Florida in the 2026 class.

Griffin was a standout for Jesuit for 5 seasons, throwing for 2.449 yards and 30 touchdowns as an 8th-grader on the varsity team in 2021. Griffin’s top passing year was his sophomore season in 2023, in which he threw for 3,404 yards and 34 touchdowns. Griffin’s 37 touchdowns in 2025 gave him an incredible 143 in his career – which broke Tim Tebow’s state record for TD tosses.

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound Griffin finished his high school career in the Class 4A regional finals last weekend having passed for 12,299 yards with a .624 completion percentage. He also added 759 rushing yards on 182 carries and 18 touchdowns as a prep.

Florida currently ranks No. 16 in the 247Sports Composite team rankings, sporting 18 commitments including 13 4-stars in the 2026 class. Sumrall, who went 42-11 in 4 years as the coach at Tulane and Troy, was hired Sunday to replace Billy Napier.
