On Saturday, a 4-year-old child was waiting to cross Cooper Drive outside of Kroger Field in Lexington when he was struck by a car.

Now, tragically, Marco Lee Shemwell has passed away, according to KYKernel.com.

The report says that the 18-year-old Kentucky student who hit Shemwell showed signs of impairment at the time of his arrest:

An 18-year-old UK student, Jacob Heil, was arrested Saturday after being identified as the driver of the silver car that struck Shemwell. At the time of his arrest, Heil showed “signs of impairment” during field sobriety tests.

Shemwell passed away from his injuries on Monday evening at nearby Kentucky Children’s Hospital.

Our thoughts are with the Shemwell family at this tragic time.
