Ole Miss did not begin the final weekend before National Signing Day the way it had hoped, learning late Friday night that four-star linebacker Leo Lewis had decommitted from the program.

Lewis — a Brookhaven, Miss., native — had been committed to Ole Miss since September, but announced he was decommitting from the Rebels while on an official visit to LSU, the final visit of his recruitment process. He made a visit to Ole Miss last weekend and to in-state rival Mississippi State the week before that.

Lewis was once committed to Alabama, but he decommitted from the Crimson Tide last summer before giving a commitment to Ole Miss just a few months later.

The USA Today first-team All-USA performer was the only inside linebacker in the Rebels’ 2015 recruiting class, and was expected to play some role in replacing departing linebackers Deterrian Shackelford and Serderius Bryant. He recorded 79 tackles as a senior at Brookhaven High School last fall.
