Which college program has staked its claim as being the true DBU?
It’s a topic often bandied about in college football circles — especially if a said program churns out secondary talent to the NFL on an annual basis.
Two schools squarely in the mix for this denotation are LSU and Florida. Coincidentally enough, both schools will face off versus one another this weekend in Baton Rouge.
Unsurprisingly, the defensive back talent featured in this contest is very, very good.
LSU possesses one of the nation’s best safeties in Jamal Adams. It also has Tre’Davious White and Dwayne Thomas.
As for Florida, it possesses the best corner tandem in the country in Quincy Wilson and Teez Tabor — as well as injured safety Marcus Maye.
NFL scouts are expected to flock to this game in heavy droves. As a sort of precursor, NFL.com’s Daniel Jeremiah asked five NFL executives for their opinions on the best defensive back — regardless of team — playing in this ballgame.
Three of the five scouts felt as if Adams is the top prospect playing in this game.
Here are the reasons for this opinion (which are combined into one paragraph):
“Adams is one of my favorite players in the country. He can play high, low or cover in the slot. He’s the ideal safety. Adams is a special player. He’ll be a top-10 pick. I love Adams. He’s a better version of Eric Reed.”
White got one vote — as did Wilson.
Surprisingly, Tabor did not get much love from the scouts. There was an immense amount of hype surrounding the Washington D.C. player heading into this year. However, it appears as if his teammate may have developed a bit faster in ’16.
