We’ve reviewed the film and picked out five of the SEC’s biggest hits from Week 7.
One came from a most unlikely source: a quarterback.
Turning the tide
Alabama dominated Texas A&M in the first half, and Jonathan Allen helped set the tone with a bone-jarring hit on Texas A&M quarterback Chad Allen during the Aggies’ first possession. The play was ruled a fumble. Texas A&M recovered but lost yards and had to punt.
Memphis mojo
Memphis led Ole Miss 34-24 in the fourth quarter, but Ole Miss was driving when defensive back Reggie Ball prevented a completion with a big hit on Rebels receiver Cody Core.
How-to lesson in run support
Alabama’s Kenyan Drake had room to run — until he didn’t. Texas A&M defensive back Armani Watts delivered a clean, knockout blow that sent Drake to the sideline during the first half of their game.
Justin time
Alabama was driving — again — and feeding Derrick Henry — some more — when Texas A&M safety Justin Evans lowered his shoulder and knocked Henry backward. Evans, at 195 pounds, weighs 47 pounds less than Henry.
The QB strikes back
Quarterbacks are almost on the receiving end of huge hits. Alabama’s Jacob Coker struck back Saturday, lowering his shoulder after a long scramble and de-cleating Texas A&M’s Nick Harvey.
