9 former SEC players help Kansas City Chiefs to Super Bowl win over San Francisco

The Kansas City Chiefs are football’s world champions. Andy Reid’s squad rallied for 21 points in the fourth quarter to beat the San Francisco 49ers 31-20 in Super Bowl LIV at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida.
It’s an exciting Sunday night for many former SEC players who will be getting the most sought-after ring in the sport.
The Chiefs active roster features nine SEC alumni:

- Dustin Colquitt, Tennessee
- Rashad Fenton, South Carolina
- Mecole Hardman, Georgia
- Chris Jones, Mississippi State
- Tyrann Mathieu, LSU
- Reggie Ragland, Alabama
- Demarcus Robinson, Florida
- Armani Watts, Texas A&M
An additional 10 former SEC players are on the team’s roster under injured reserve and practice squad:
- Martinas Rankin, Mississippi State
- Breeland Speaks, Ole Miss
- Spencer Ware, LSU
- Darrel Williams, LSU
- Gehrig Dieter, Alabama
- Braxton Hoyett, Mississippi State
- Chris Lammons, South Carolina
- Devaroe Lawrence, Auburn
- Kyle Shurmur, Vanderbilt
- Emmanuel Smith, Vanderbilt
On the stat sheet, Hardman finished with one rush for minute-6 yards, one reception for 2 yards and 3 kickoff returns averaging 19.3 yards. On defense, the tackle tally was Mathieu with 6, Ragland with 2, Fenton and Jones each with 1. Jones also recorded 3 passes defended.
Colquitt had 2 punts of 51 and 49 yards, including one inside the San Francisco 20-yard line.
