A.J. Green’s 2019 debut has again been delayed.

According to ESPN.com’s Ben Baby, Green suffered a setback in his recovery from a left ankle injury, which will keep him off the field indefinitely. Green’s ankle didn’t respond well to workouts earlier in the week, leading to swelling that prevented him from practicing on Wednesday.

Green, who is in his ninth season with the Cincinnati Bengals, has yet to play in a game this season. The former Georgia wide receiver tore multiple ligaments in his left ankle during the Bengals’ first practice of the preseason.

Now, it’s unclear when Green could return to action.

“For me, just gotta make sure I feel comfortable going out there and pushing it,” Green said Thursday, per Baby. “For me, just gotta make sure I gotta take care of me first before anything else.”

The Bengals could certainly use the boost that Green would provide to their offense. Cincinnati has opened the season with eight consecutive losses and is the only winless team remaining in the NFL.

After playing at Georgia from 2008-10, Green was selected by the Bengals with the No. 4 overall pick in the first round of the 2011 draft. He made the Pro Bowl in each of his first seven seasons and has been Cincinnati’s top offensive weapon throughout his career.
