Aaron Murray explains why Mike Bobo will be successful as Georgia’s OC
By Adam Spencer
Published:
Aaron Murray was at Georgia from 2009 to 2013 and, by the time his career as the Bulldogs’ quarterback was over, he was the SEC’s all-time leader in passing yards and passing touchdowns.
His offensive coordinator during that time? Mike Bobo, who recently got promoted to the same role after serving as an offensive analyst on Kirby Smart’s staff in 2022.
Speaking on SiriusXM’s SEC Radio on Wednesday, Murray explained why his former coordinator will have success in 2023 serving as Todd Monken’s replacement:

“One of the reasons why I committed to Georgia was because of Bobo and the fact that he played at Georgia,” Murray said. “And obviously Coach (Mark) Richt as well was a former quarterback. So I knew that I was going to get someone that was a great sounding board, that’s been in my shoes, that understands what it was and what it means to be the quarterback at the University of Georgia, understands the day-to-day stresses and grinds of being in that position. …
“He’s going to get the most out of them. Obviously he got the most out of me. I’m a 6-foot quarterback, with good arm strength — not great. I’m somewhat athletic, and he turned me into a guy that holds almost every record in the SEC when it comes to quarterback stats. If he can do that with me, I think he can do that with guys who are a lot more athletic and talented than I am.”
Can Bobo develop the next Aaron Murray or Stetson Bennett? We’ll see who wins Georgia’s QB competition ahead of the 2023 season.
