In Week 1, the Air Raid offense was the talk of the SEC when Mike Leach’s Mississippi State Bulldogs upset defending national champion LSU in Baton Rouge. While seeing the Air Raid was new to a young generation of SEC football fans, it wasn’t the first time the offense has taken the conference by storm.

With Leach’s Bulldogs taking on Kentucky this Saturday, the SEC Network decided to look back at the time Leach was the Wildcats’ offensive coordinator under Hal Mumme.

The 5-minute SEC Network feature has a little bit of everything. Mike Leach explains how the Air Raid got its name. Mumme and former Kentucky QB Tim Couch look back on 1997, their memorable first season together. Couch shares that he still believes Leach can win a championship with his team operating the pass-oriented offense.
