Training camp may have just recently opened up in Cincinnati but AJ Green is already banged up.

News of Green’s recent camp injury isn’t new but the news that the Bengals star had to undergo surgery has not been reported until now. According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, Green sprained his ankle over the weekend and had to leave practice early. Green then had surgery on Tuesday to correct an issue with his ankle.

While that news isn’t what any fan of Green or the Bengals wants to hear, the good news is the star receiver could return to the lineup in time for Cincinnati’s season opener.

Green missed seven games last season due to injury and is in the last season of his current contract. Taking that into consideration, don’t be surprised if Green eases into his return without a new deal in hand from the Bengals before the season starts.

In Green’s eight seasons in Cincinnati, he’s racked up 602 catches for 8,907 yards and 63 touchdowns with the Bengals.
