AJ McCarron blasts Alabama fans who were quick to jump off the Ty Simpson ‘bandwagon’

AJ McCarron has a strong message for Alabama fans.

The start of Alabama’s season has been a roller coaster. In Week 1, the Crimson Tide fell to Florida State in a stunning upset, losing 31-17. The most significant issues were on offense, where the Crimson Tide struggled to move the ball consistently against a Seminoles team that was awful last year.

The sky seemed like it was falling, but after two bounce-back games, Alabama was rolling, and a key reason for this is quarterback Ty Simpson. Simpson has been excellent in back-to-back wins over Louisiana-Monroe, throwing for more touchdown passes (7) than incompletions (5) in those games.

McCarron, a former Alabama quarterback himself, called out Alabama fans who jumped off the Simpson bandwagon too quickly.

“Some of those watching the show have to jump back on the bandwagon. … It’s funny that fans wanted to get on Ty and say he didn’t play great in the first game,” McCarron said. “‘It was his fault.’ Blah, blah, blah. A lot of crickets out there right now. I said be patient with him. He’s going to be fine.”

For the entire season, Simpson has 862 passing yards and 9 touchdowns with a 71.9% completion percentage.

Simpson’s biggest test yet comes next week when the Crimson Tide visits Georgia in Athens. The Georgia defense has more talent than any of the teams they have played so far, and it will be a real test to see how far he has evolved.
